Hi, I'm Emily Gillcrist.
I am an interdisciplinary researcher, theorist, educator, and artist; a PhD Candidate in Cultural Analysis & Theory; and the founder of vitalthought.org
My research synthesizes science & technology studies, postcolonial ecocriticism, existential phenomenology, and psychoanalytic deconstruction to address the explosion of technoindustrial power in relation to the worsening climate crisis.
My teaching and my educational organization, Vital Thought, promote engaged multimodal analysis, ethical thinking, cultural literacy, and pragmatic strategizing in an our unprecedented historical moment.
My artwork is inspired by themes in my research: the uncanny, worldhood, materiality, vitality, and the tension of the nature/culture relation.
